The mission of TechBiM is to enable collaboration in the digital (construction) world. In this manner, all stakeholders can collaboratively ensure that the digital twin (the BIM Model) of the technical installation of a building is constructed as efficiently as possible.
Each actor contributes their part.
This means that the digital twin can later also be used for decisions regarding the maintenance and operation of the building.
Standardisation offers significant gains in interactions between design, execution, and maintenance & operation. The idea is that contractors can seamlessly continue working on the model created by designers, and operators can seamlessly continue working on the model created by contractors.
When work is conducted in this manner, any further optimisation will benefit the entire project.
The primary core task of TechBiM is to manage and maintain the standardisation of the BIM content layer for all stakeholders involved in technical installations for projects in Belgium.
TechBiM further built upon standards in the BIM content layer (e.g. Revit Standards) that are closely aligned with the BIM data layer. Standards which, on their own, are insufficient to achieve fully standardised digital building blocks for technical installations.
TechBiM has indeed progressed to the point of entering discussions regarding a common generic object library for technical installations in Belgium. TechBiM thereby enables efficient digital collaboration.
The second core task of TechBiM is to assist in the establishment of a digital system for the built environment in Belgium.
The digital system is a set of agreements that ensures the ownership and use of data are properly regulated. It defines, among other things, the various roles in the digital world and establishes the rights and responsibilities of each role.
The digital system fosters the necessary trust to collaborate on a digital level.
Through the standardisation of the BIM content layer, TechBiM establishes an open ecosystem in which all key players (Users, Manufacturers, Partners, and End Users) can collaborate across each of the three BIM layers.
The third core task of TechBiM is to cultivate this open ecosystem in which stakeholders can contribute to further standardisation development.
They enable the BIM user freedom to choose product data from any source and to inject it into a Generic Object of TechBiM (content) using an application built on top of the BIM Modelling Software of their choice. Revit, DDS-CAD, BricsCAD, Vectorworks, Archicad, …
