Due to the fact that most parties utilised different object libraries (either proprietary or purchased from the market), it was common until recently for a 3D BIM model from the engineering firm to be converted back into numerous 2D PDF documents and plans, which the technical installation company then had to work with to create its own BIM model. There was a need for a common object library created by and for all BIM users involved with technical installations. This would ensure that the transfer of BIM models between users no longer faces resistance (such as issues related to ownership rights) and that the transferred model will be effectively usable, as all BIM users will utilise the same generic objects from and for the sector at no cost.
